Ladders - a recipe for Russian cuisine, such cookies in the form of ladders were baked on Sunday of Lent. They are baked in honor of the memory of the work of St. John of the Ladder - "The Ladder of Paradise". After baking, the stairs were illuminated in the church and given to children. The dough from which the ladders are prepared quickly becomes stale, so they do not need to be stored, but it is better to eat on the same day. Crosses are baked from the same dough during the Holy Week and Novgorod Christmas cows are baked.

Recipe Ingredients

Rye Flour 2-2.5 cups
Honey 3 tbsp
Vegetable Oil 3 tbsp
Water 2-3 tbsp
Salt 1 pinch

Cooking Recipe

For ladders recipe, dissolve honey and vegetable oil in hot water. Add salt, ground cinnamon and stir. Gradually add rye flour to knead a dense dough. You can add water or flour if needed. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and set aside for 15-20 minutes.

Form dough into ladders, sprinkle with flour and place in preheated 180°C (355°F) oven. Bake ladders for 10 minutes.
