History of Oktoberfest Celebrations

The history of Oktoberfest began more than two centuries ago. On October 12, 1810, in honor of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresa, after whom the site of this holiday is now named, folk festivals were organized, and on October 17, pitching was held.
