For this reason, New Year's recipes for New Year and Christmas are, if not the same, then very similar. In many countries, just like at Christmas, for the New Year they cook baked turkey, goose, chicken, duck and other poultry, cook various vegetable and meat salads, bake cookies, buns and other types of baked goods. Punch, mulled wine and other alcoholic drinks are prepared for the New Year. New Year's recipes from countries that were once part of the Soviet Union look isolated. These recipes are an attempt to make at least some kind of holiday recipe with the scarcity and limited variety of ingredients available. For this reason, such recipes for New Year dishes as Olivier salad, herring under a fur coat, mimosa salad or crab salad appeared and still exist.
