Guvech rice casserole is a Bulgarian recipe, rice with vegetables baked in the oven with kefir and eggs.

Recipe Ingredients

Rice 200 g
Tomatoes 2-3 pcs
Onion 1 pcs
Bell Pepper 2 pcs
Eggs 4 pcs
Kefir 500 ml
Vegetable Oil 150 ml

Cooking Recipe

For the guvech rice casserole recipe, you need to peel the onion, finely chop and fry in vegetable oil until golden brown. Pour the washed rice, finely chopped sweet pepper into the fried onions and, without ceasing to stir, lightly fry with the addition of salt and black pepper. Wash tomatoes and cut into small slices.

Put half of the chopped tomatoes into the prepared baking dish, then a layer of rice with onions and peppers, put the remaining half of the tomatoes on top. Pour all 3-4 tbsp. vegetable oil, 100 ml of water and put in the oven.

Bake at 180°C (355°F) for 30 minutes. after the rice with vegetables is completely cooked, pour it on top with whipped kefir with eggs. Using a fork or skewer, make several punctures in guvech rice casserole so that the liquid completely reaches the bottom and put back in the oven until browned.
