Bagarj is a sweet flatbread made from rich yeast dough. Bagarj is decorated with a braided rope of dough sprinkled with poppy seeds, and after baking it is sprinkled with powdered sugar. The view is very festive.

Recipe Ingredients

Wheat Flour 600 g
Water 100 ml
Dry Yeast 1 tsp
Eggs 2 pcs
Sugar 100 g
Butter 150 g
Poppy 3 tbsp
Salt 0,5 tsp

Cooking Recipe

For the bagarj recipe, dilute the yeast in warm water, grind one egg with sugar and combine with melted butter. Combine the yeast with the egg-butter mixture, add salt and gradually, adding flour, knead the dough. Put the dough in heat for an hour, then knead and again for an hour in heat.

Put the risen dough on a floured surface and separate 1/3 of the part. From the larger part, roll out a layer of approximately 30 cm in diameter and put on a greased baking sheet. After done, you can with a fork, pattern, and fluff with a beaten egg.

Twist the tourniquet from the remaining dough and lay out the cake in a circle. Lubricate the tourniquet with an egg and sprinkle generously with poppy seeds. Bake at 160°C (320°F) for 30 minutes. After bagarj cools down, sprinkle with powdered sugar, trying not to touch the tourniquet.
