Cookies "Canestrelli" – a recipe for Italian pastries, the name of the cookie comes from the word canestro, which means a basket in which the hostess put ready-made sweets. Usually these cookies were cooked for the holidays.

Recipe Ingredients

Wheat Flour 250 g
Butter 125 g
Sugar 125 g
Eggs 1 pcs
Lemon Zest 1 pcs

Cooking Recipe

For the "Canestrelli" cookies recipe, take the butter out of the fridge ahead of time to soften it. Then grind the butter with sugar. This can be done in a blender or with a regular whisk.

When the sugar and butter combine, without ceasing to beat, beat in the egg.

Then add chopped lemon zest, sifted flour and knead the dough.

Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes. After roll out the dough into a layer of 5 mm and cut circles with cloves.

Put the prepared cookies on a baking sheet and bake at 180-190°С (355-375°F) for 15 minutes.

Cool the finished cookies and sprinkle with powdered sugar. You can also coat the cookies with marmalade and combine.
