Poppy - (Latin Papáver), an herbaceous plant of the poppy family, but not the flowers themselves, but only the seeds are used in cooking. The most common use of poppy seeds is baking. Before use, the poppy should be soaked or, as they say, steam it out, and grate gently. Pounded poppy seeds are fragrant and give the dish a special pleasant taste. When mixed with various small seeds, such as sesame, poppy seeds are very good in sauces for light oriental salads. Poppy seeds are universal - they well complement the taste of vegetables and legumes.
