Ginger (lat. Zingider) is a perennial tropical plant of the ginger family. The rhizomes are fleshy, aboveground stems up to 1 m high. Ginger is home to Southeast Asia. Long before our era, Arab merchants began to bring ginger to southern Europe; in India and China, ginger was also used from ancient times. Ginger was widely used in England in the 9th century.
